Okay, I feel like I’m a little late on this because the cool days are here! Well, at least the cool mornings. So far, all I’ve done to prepare for this season in terms of my wardrobe are pulling the Fall and Winter pieces from storage, and moving out the Summery-colored items one by one. I haven’t moved them into storage just yet, but they aren’t visibly seen hanging in my closet or folded in my drawer either.
What is a Capsule Wardrobe?
It’s a mini-wardrobe made up of versatile pieces that you love to wear! Caroline from Unfancy, suggests 37 pieces, but I don’t worry too much about the number, and instead just keep pieces that I love.
Why a Capsule Wardrobe?
For me, the whole purpose of doing this – is to create a more put-together look for myself. I don’t want to be the frumpy and frazzled mama who wears sweatpants all the time and has spit-up on her shirt. (There’s a time for that, but it’s not the look I’m going for when I go out into the world.) I also have heard so many benefits of getting up and getting dressed in the mornings – even if just to stay at home with your littles. I immediately feel more confident, and ready to tackle my day when I get dressed and put on makeup. “Dress for the day you want to have, not how your day is actually going.” So my whole goal was to create a “uniform”, if you will, of easy-to-grab and put together outfits that I love and feel great in.
1. They must be comfortable.
2. They must be timeless and classsic and work well togehter.
(This means less shopping!)
3. They must be semi-casual, but also cute.
Our weather here is neither fully cold, nor fully warm so layered pieces are what will work best. Think short sleeves with a long-sleeved cardigan over or shorts with a sweater. Really anything is game, but you don’t want to be sweating by lunch time- so layers are the way to go for sure!
I’ll be sharing my process with you, each step of the way, but first- I’ll provide you with a great resource. Here is a Free Capsule Wardrobe Planner that you can print so that you can do this along with me! I love Caroline from this site, Un-fancy. I find her capsule wardrobes inspiring and love how she mixes and matches all the classic pieces. Her blog inspired me to do my first, true Capsule Wardrobe in the spring of this year. I used her suggestions to purchase basic items I needed to complete my wardrobe, all within my budget. Then, of course, I lost weight and some of the things became too baggy and loose on me. Thankfully, I did have some of my pre-Layten shirts in storage that I pulled out, and I only had to buy a few pairs of pants to make it work through the Summer.
So here we are – it’s Fall, and it’s time to plan my next Capsule. Print out Caroline’s Free Capsule Planner, and get ready to plan a Fall/Winter Capsule with me!
