Track Where Your Time is Going (with FREE Printable!)

In a financial budget when you are trying to evaluate whether or not you have “room in the budget” to add something new, what do you do? You might take time to look and see where your money is actually going to be sure your budget is accurate or if changes need to be made.

The same can be done with our time. The only difference here is that all of have the same amount of time – 24 hours in a day. I’ve also created a worksheet for you to create a a “Time Budget“, but it’s important to see “where our time is actually going” before we can tell it where we want it to go. Make sense?

So I’ve created a Daily Time Tracker for you. Print as many copies as you need as each of your days may look a little different, depending on your obligations. It’s important to write down what you are ACTUALLY doing during that time, not what you usually do or want to be doing.

You may be surprised to find some extra margin time in there to do something you really love – the time you spent perusing Facebook or watching a T.V. show, perhaps? I know that when I first did this, I was surprised to see how much multi-tasking I was doing when I had to write in many many tasks on a line and even scribble things in the margins of the page. It really gave me a detailed view of how I was spending my time, and I’ve been able to make some changes to it so that I’m spending my time more wisely now. I hope you will be enlightened by this as well. Go ahead an do it for a week so that you can have an accurate view when you get ready to work on your Time Budgets soon.

    Strides of Increase, Week 3

    As you know, my word of the year is Increase. When I think about the word Increase, I think about personal growth, getting better, being intentional and purposeful. I wanted to post a regular update of sorts of how I’m using my Word of the Year in a personal way. Sure, it’s easy to choose a word to claim over your year, but if you do nothing with it, it’s really just a word.

    So that is what I’m going to do with my word, Increase, and I’m going to bring you along on this journey with me. Hopefully it will inspire you to do the same with the word you’ve chosen. Apply it to your life in a personal way and make some positive changes.

    So how am I striving to INCREASE this year and this week specifically?
    (Personally, Professionally, & in my Family)

    • I’m working to build worthwhile habits.
      -Re-establishing the Habit of Working Out
      With sick kiddos and snow days this week, I missed my morning “Bonus Work” gym sessions, but I did make 4 workouts this week so I’m okay with that.

      -Establish the Habit of Reading Aloud to my Children
      We read several days this week. Layten also brought me a Playstation Game case for me to “read” to her one day, so at least I know that she’s enjoying our read aloud time. I took a few pics to document the books we read.

      This one was fun because Layten has learned how to say “apple”, and there are apples on literally every page.

      Establish the Habit of Daily Reading, Personally 
      This week I read Stronger than the Strugger by Havilah Cunnington, chapter 1 and Reading People by Anne Bogel through chapter 4.

    • I want to GROW as a Christian and as a person in general.
      In addition to my habit of reading the One Year Bible, this week I began my first supplemental study of the year – Priscilla Shirer’s study Discerning the Voice of God. It’s already SO GOOD! (And the video sessions are available free right now through LifeWay if you want to get a book a join me!)

    • Celebrate the wins & Focus on the Positive.
      I’m doing this by memory-keeping in my Happy Planner, but here is some photo documentation of a few things…

      A Moment that they are playing well together… definitely cause for celebration!
      Lawson lost his very first tooth! Literally about an hour after we noticed it was loose, he pulled it himself. I hope they are all this easy!

      Justin competed in the Hometown Throwdown CrossFit competition near us this weekend. He and his partner placed 5th in the RX male division. He had about 8 of our CrossFit members come out to support him, plus his family of course.
    • I want to build my blog and expand to new territories of influence.
      My blog is transitioning to Purposeful Planning soon. There will be a challenge this month on the topic of Self-Care, as well as a Facebook group to dive deeper into this topic with my readers.
    • GROW my Platform. I’ve been seeking God about what it is that He would have me share with my readers and my social media followers.
    • Work on and Build each relationship. To do this, I am studying the personality types and love languages of each of those in my immediate family. I am reading and thinking about how to create a life-giving home. I want to better understand, love, and serve those closest to me.

    • Focus on hearts & character. These will be things we will focus on more in our home school and home-life in general. I will strive to be more like Jesus in my mothering and as a wife.
      This little fella is a “drink snatcher.” I’m guilty of usually being a little possessive over my drinks, but Daddy reminded me that one day I will miss having a little boy to come a snatch my drinks from me. #Perspective

      So these are the ways that I am personally working towards INCREASE in my person, professional, and family life. Now, go take your Word of the Year, and make a purposeful plan to bring about positive change in your own life. That’s what it’s all about!

    A New Direction

    Hey, readers!

    I want to thank you for being faithful here to me and to my blog. I’ve been praying about what God would have me write to you here on the blog, and I’ve been conflicted. As you know, this past week I launched Purposeful Planning on Patreon, and I introduced a monthly challenge for the month of January on the topic of Self-Care. During the time, I was working on this content and printable resources for Patreon, I struggled with knowing what I should post here on my blog. I knew that I wanted to continue here as well, but I didn’t know what I should be posting about. I also didn’t know how to make those printable resources available to you also in a way that made sense.

    Now, I think I have my answer. I will be closing my Patreon account in a few weeks and transferring all of that content over here to my blog. I want it to be available to as many women as possible. My whole belief and intent with launching Patreon was to help women to be more intentional and purposeful in planning their lives. Patreon was a great tool for doing that, and it simplified things for me big time, but it didn’t make sense for me to have two separate tools for posting content on the web – Patreon and my blog. So now, I am consolidating the two into one and sticking with what I know.

    I love the vision that God has given me for Purposeful Planning! I would eventually love to purchase a domain name and rename this blog, as I believe most of what I’m posting here does fall into that “Purposeful Planning” category anyway. It’s just who I am. That is my goal and something I will be working towards in the near future.

    So… with all of that said – we are about to begin a Self-Care Challenge here on the blog! There are SO many different aspects of this that we will cover… Time Management and
    Prioritizing our Time for what’s most important to us,
    Determining our Core Values,
    Discovering our Passions – what really fulfills us personally,
    How to Care for our Physical Health,
    How to Care of our Emotional & Mental Health, and
    How to Care for our Spiritual Health & Well-Being as well!

    Plus, we’ll cover several topics in between like how to “give ourselves permission to take time for self-care”, the “mama-guilt” we face, and overcoming fears that hold us back from doing things that we love to do.

    I’ve created a Printable Task List for the month. Some things on the list are actual tasks that will require you to take the time to do or make a plan to do them at some point. Others are more of an internal decision for you to make and easy to check off the list when you are ready.

    There is also a Facebook group available, and I would love for you to join us there! I really want us to be able to use this group to discuss the topics and resources more in depth so you can really make this all work for you and apply it to your own lives!
