Show Notes –

In this week’s episode of My Purposeful Planning, Laney finishes up her interview with special guest, Morgan Peters. They discuss all sorts of topics related to being a wise woman as outlined in Proverbs 31… such as Self-Care & Rest, Pursuing Dreams, Running a Business, Work-Life Balance, Setting Healthy Boundaries for our kids, and more!

In This Episode:

[00:00] -Intro.

[00:26] – Recap of Last Episode where we discussed The Wise Woman and Laney began her interview with Special
Guest,  Morgan Peters

[00:48] – 2 Peter 1:5-8 “For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowlesge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

There’s always something we can be doing or working on.

[01:31] – How can we as wives and moms find balance between much-needed rest and self-care after our work versus laziness and letting things go?

Morgan’s Tip: It’s as simple as nights at home without having to DO anything. Those are the best, relaxing evenings.
One thing I do for self-care is getting my nails done.

[02:54] – How do we keep our kids from feeding on laziness?

Morgan shares how their family made the tough call to cut out video games for their boys which led to really fruitful and productive pastimes for them that they will enjoy for years to come!

[04:58] – Morgan shares a little about what it’s like to run a business… what they’ve learned over the years, how to deal with conflict, how to manage employees, etc.

[06:51] – How do you prioritize what’s most important and find this work/life balance that we all strive for?

Morgan’s Tip: “When I see open days on the calendar, while I don’t always want to fill them quickly, I do see them as opportunities that we can plan to do fun things together as a family.”

8:22 Do you view your business as ministry also?

9:44 What would you say to the person listening to this that says “I have a dream or something  I want to pursue and do, but I don’t have the time or the resources to do it”?

Morgan shares how God gave her the dream to be a worship leader, and how God worked all that out for her to be where she is now leading worship for over ten years.

11:25 – How do you find balance between protecting your children and keeping them safe by letting them know about the dangers of the world versus not fearing or worrying about them?

Morgan’s Tip: Be praying about different situations and listen to the discernment of the holy spirit.

Morgan’s Tips for Promoting Safety with Screen Time: We have the passwords to their apple I.D.’s so we have to put in the password before they can download any apps or games. We also put our phones up at night so they don’t have them all night. They have parental controls on their phones. They don’t have unrestricted use of safari and YouTube, because those are danger zones. We’ve also discussed that they should be listening to the Holy Spirit as well about things we aren’t sure about.

[14:59] – She is more than confident in the future. Not only are we working on home management skills, but as we adjust our attitudes and grow and mature… we can be prepared and ready and laugh at the time to come.

Morgan shares how this is all a season of life. There is good and bad in every season, and sometimes we feel “stuck” in our current season with all of its negative aspects. When we wish the season away that we’re in, we’re also wishing away the “good” things from this season. We don’t often realize that we’ve moved on from one season to another. Some seasons last two weeks, some may last several months. Just persevere, and keep chugging along. The rewards are so great when you’re consistent with discipline and family time. Lean on your friends, and intentionally ask for advice and wisdom… because they probably won’t just give it unless they are asked. 😉

[19:15] – Morgan shares about how to find time to exercise, what works best for her, and why she feels it’s so important now that she has a little girl following in her steps.

[20:40] – She is confident

We all have insecurity about our bodies. We can fake confidence sometimes. Most of the confidence I have comes from experience and walking through hard things. Growing in emotional intelligence.

[21:46] – Loving the Skin you’re in; Dressing your body well; Shopping and buying things you normally wouldn’t buy

[23:27] – Giveaway Going on Now for the book Home Management: Plain & Simply by Kim Brenneman

[24:22 She speaks with wisdom and kindness.

“I wanna be the same person on Sundays that I am on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday…” Talk to them like people, not like they are less than because they are younger. They are children of God too. Give them love and respect. Spend time in the Word to set my heart right. Stay prayed up so we can respond with kindness.

25:49 Her husband and her children praise her; Speaking about Mama’s mood…

“We are the thermostat. If we’re hot, things are gonna be heated around the house. There’s gonna be tension. But at the same time we are the ones who are able to calm situations. God has given us that gift to be able to minister to our family in that way.”

26:55 What is your secret to success for being a wise woman?

Morgan’s Tips: Be in tune with the spirit and in tune with the Lord. Things are not always easy and rainbows, but they are always doable. You’ll be able to walk through things that you never thought you could, and He’s gonna be with you through all of it.
